Mark your calendar for Monday, April 24th 6 to 7:30pm at the Jericho Town Library, 7 Jericho Center Cir, off of Browns Trace, and the Town Green.
Whether at home, as a community, or in partnership with commercial composters - composting food scraps supports healthy, resilient communities and the environment. In this interactive talk, Natasha Duarte, director of the Composting Association, will answer questions about Vermont's "composting law" (the Universal Recycling Law), explain the pros and cons of composting at home, and teach an easy, fail-proof way to compost at home safely. Natasha will also review options for keeping your food scraps out of the landfill if you aren't interested in or can't compost at home. There will be plenty of time for Q&A and discussions.
Natasha Duarte is the Director of the Composting Association of Vermont (CAV). She represents CAV in policy initiatives, develops and leads outreach and education initiatives, and promotes the production and use of compost as vital to soil health through practices that contribute to water quality, plant vigor, and environmental resilience. Natasha has extensive experience working with rural and small communities to plan and implement solid waste management projects, developing training tools and resources, and delivering training and technical assistance. She is an instructor for UVM's Master Composter Program and is currently leading a USDA-funded project that supports community-oriented food scrap composting on farms. Natasha has an MS in Soil Science from North Carolina State University and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Vermont. http://www.compostingvermont.org
