Hi everyone,
Well, the Knotweed in town is just starting to show its red tips, so it's time to get to work.
If you're interested in volunteering a little time, the "Knot in Waitsfield" gang would love to welcome you. We will be meeting next Thursday, April 27, from 4 to 6 pm, at the Lareau Swim Hole. Joining us will be several interns from UVM who will be working with us and our friends in Fayston and Warren this summer.
Our project Thursday will be to remove dead Knotweed stalks from a couple new sites we'll be managing this year. By clearing out the dead material it's much easier to get at the young stalks to cut them and access the root balls to dig them out.
So, if you're interested in this effort to address invasive species in town, you'd be most welcome to join us at Lareau for a couple hours of work. Our motto is "come when you can, leave when you'd like" during the 4 to 6 pm window. Weekly "Knot Thursdays" will begin soon.
If you're interested in learning more about our work to address the Japanese Knotweed challenge and revegetate sites with native shrubs and trees. but can't join us this coming Thursday, please reach out to me. I'd be delighted to talk with you, share our plans for the year, and explore how you could help.
