Food Resilience in Puerto Rico Slideshow and Talk

Past event
Apr 27, 2023, 7 to 8:30 PM

Next Thursday at 7:00 p.m., UVM Professor Travis Reynolds and his students, who have spent the semester studying the vulnerabilities in emerging local food systems in Puerto Rico and recently traveled there, will present their findings and a slideshow. Their talk is titled "They Call It A Territory, But It's A Colony: Food Sovereignty and Resilience in Puerto Rico." Eighty percent of the island's agricultural production value was destroyed in 2017 by Hurricane Maria, but local food activity has helped provide food and employment since then, through the Covid pandemic and recent severe storms including Hurricane Fiona in 2022. Everyone is welcome to this free program in our upstairs meeting room.

Our regularly scheduled book club discussion will be postponed one week to Thursday, May 4 at 7:00.
