An Intimate Night of Jazz in the Heart of Stowe with The Paul Asbell Quartet featuring Paul Asbell, Chris Peterman, Clyde Stats and Gabe Jarrett brought to you by the Brass Lantern Inn and Firefly Productions.

About the Performers

Veteran guitarist, Paul Asbell has earned an underground reputation as a true "musician's musician." He has played and recorded with Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Lightin' Hopkins, Otis Rush, Magic Sam, Earl Hooker, Lightin' Slim, Paul Butterfield, Sam Lay, Pops Staples, Donny Hathaway, David Bromberg, Betty Carter, Joshua Redmond, James Carter, Kermit Ruffins, Michael Ray, the Sun Ra Arkestra, The Wild Magnolias, Dave Grippos and so many more. From his early years playing blues on Chicago's South Side to his present multi faceted career here in Northern Vermont teaching at the university level at Darmouth, St. Michael's, Middlebury and The University of Vermont; bringing stars like Trey Anastasio and Nick Cassorino up. The founder of Kilimanjaro, Paul has recorded award winning albums and toured with the late and legendary saxophonist Big Joe Burrell nationally, and in Russia, Holland, and Canada.

On Saxophone, Chris Peterman a gifted musician and Connecticut native, Chris plays both tenor and soprano saxophones. Peterman graduated from the Berklee College of Music, and has played on the national scene with artists such as The Neville Brothers, Phish, Joe Henderson, John Scofield and Dave Brubec. Chris is truly one of the finest sax players in Vermont.

On double bass, Clyde Stats, a professor at UVM performs regularly with Paul Asbell and has played with a variety of artists such as Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, and Otis Rush in Chicago . Since settling in Vermont, he has played every style of popular music from bluegrass to jazz with groups such as Banjo Dan and the Midnite Plowboys, the Sneakers Jazz Band, James Harvey's H-Mob, and PoJazz. He has studied with internationally known jazz bassists George Mraz and Santi Debriano, and has accompanied jazz legends Mose Allison, Bobby Watson, and James Carter.

And on back on percussion from our inaugural Jazz at the Lantern with Bill Pierce, Gabe Jarrett. Gabe began playing music at age 5 and was performing by 12. Gabe studied drum-set composition at the New School Jazz program in New York City, and studied with Charlie Persip and Bob Gullotti. Among others, Gabe has played with Peter Apfelbaum, Joe Lovano, Mike Gordon, Page McConnell, Will Bernard, Marco Benevento, along with touring internationally. When at home in Vermont, Gabe teaches music percussion at The University of Vermont, Northern Vermont University, and Saint Michael's College.

A portion of the evening's proceeds to benefit Stowe Story Labs.

Parking at the Inn is limited, so it is suggested to park at the Shaw's next door.
