Addison County River Watch Collaborative and the CV Unitarian Universalist Society Climate Engagement Team will be co-hosting a forum on Barnes Brook on May 2nd from 7:00p-8:30p at 2 Duane Ct. Middlebury, VT 05753 in the Sanctuary.
Barnes Brook is a small, mostly urban stream located in the town of Middlebury. This lovely yet largely unnoticed brook hosts a valuable ecosystem that offers many community services even as monitoring reveals it is polluted with phosphorus and salt. This is your opportunity to become better acquainted with this dear little brook and for the community to begin to discuss strategies to value, protect and restore this natural resource. Contributions include Mary Hogan Elementary students on their experiences with the brook; River Watch on water quality results; Middlebury professors on the effects of salt on an aquatic ecosystem; UVM students' posters on proposed Green Stormwater Infrastructure; perspectives from the Conservation Commission; and one landowner's story about increasing protection of Barnes Brook through a riparian planting project.
