Film About Mongolia with the Filmmaker Present

We are so fortunate that Sas Carey will return to Charlotte to show her film, "Transition," where we follow a young woman doctor as her life shifts from a reindeer herding settlement in the taiga to Mongolia's capital, Ulaanbaatar. The event is hosted by Sustainable Charlotte (www.sustainablecharlottevt.org) and the Charlotte Library.

Sas Carey is an award-winning filmmaker who has focused her films on nomadic reindeer herders of Mongolia. She began visiting Mongolia as a nurse bringing much needed medical supplies, and that work evolved into wanting to share the stories of the people she met with the wider world. They have much to teach us about living simply and living rightly on the land.

Participants were impressed during Sas's last visit, when we watched her film "Migration," and she was asked then if she might be willing to come back to show other films. Her non-profit organization, Nomadicare, supports and preserves traditional Mongolian culture through healthcare, films, and stories.

The website, www.nomadicare.org, provides background and information about her work. The event is free, but donations will be appreciated to help Sas continue her good works. She also will bring craft items made by Mongolian reindeer herders to sell as a part of raising funds. And she will bring her newly published memoir, "Marrying Mongolia" as well as her previous book, "Reindeer Herders in My Heart", available for sale. So, there will be many ways to support her work, including direct donations.
