Upcoming Barge Canal events: save the dates!

Time to mark your calendar for two exciting events at the Pine Street Barge Canal in May.

Saturday, May 6, 9 AM - 3 PM, 2nd annual Barge Canal Green Up Day Festival.

Friends of the Barge Canal (FBC) invites you to celebrate Green Up Day with us. We will have crews to haul trash from the woods, fields and wetlands of the South End's last wild space and another to cut invasive buckthorn. This year we will also be celebrating the non-human world at the Barge Canal. You could also choose to build a Barge Canal "Guardian Spirit" with Annie Caswell; make a labyrinth or join Kristian Brevik, for a "Meditation with Insects". Lunch will be provided by the People's Kitchen. Bring water to drink, wear long pants and sturdy boots. Bring work gloves if you have them or borrow ours. Rain or shine. Come for a couple of hours or all day. More information or RSVP at our website: pinestreetbargecanal.org

Thursday, May 25, 5:30 - 7 PM, "The Stories Beneath Our Feet: Geology and Hydrogeology of the Barge Canal", DPW Conference Room, 645 Pine St. or via Zoom.

Graham Bradley, hydrogeologist, will take you on a journey far back in time and deep underground as we explore the unique geology and hydrogeology of the area we now call the Pine Street Barge Canal in Burlington. He will help us understand the interaction of rock, sediment, and water, and how industrial development influenced both the subsurface and the landscape we see today. Plenty of time for questions and discussion. Light refreshments will be served.
