Windham Philharmonic Orchestra: "Sounds of Spring"

Past event
Apr 22, 2023, 7 to 9 PM

This free concert will be in Wilmington at St. Mary's in the Mountains Episcopal Church, 13 East Main Street.

The program features the Spring Symphony by Robert Schumann. The symphony opens with a clarion call for spring, and a decisive goodbye to winter storms. The ensuing skipping themes promise the gaiety of the new season. The symphony continues with uplifting melodies handed from section to section throughout the piece. The program continues with "On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring" by Frederick Delius. This selection evokes the lush English countryside in spring. The subtle cuckoo's call reminds us to stop and listen to all the beautiful sounds that spring has to offer. The final selection is "Fruelingsstimmen" by Johann Strauss. This delightful waltz will make you wish you were dancing on the floor with your favorite partner.
