Sunday! Art & Social Action: Knitters Speak Out

Past event
Apr 16, 2023, 3 to 4:30 PM

This is the first event in the "Knit Democracy Together" series hosted by the Mad River Libraries! This program will be at the Moretown Library at Moretown Town Hall.

The presentation traces the history of activist knitting (and a little crochet). Artist and former election lawyer Eve Jacobs-Carnahan will introduce you to artists who inspired her to create the Knit Democracy Together project. She will illustrate how this domestic handcraft moved into the public sphere to address large societal issues. Eve will inspire you with work by Janet Morton, who knit the news in a Toronto store window for one month, and Cat Mazza, who organized crafters to create a 15-foot long knitted and crocheted petition to Nike protesting sweatshop labor conditions. She'll put the pink pussy hats of the Women's March in context.

During the presentation, you'll be able to stitch pieces of a collaborative banner about democracy! Non-knitters are also welcome to attend the presentation.

Free. Registration appreciated but not required: https://knitdemocracy.org/madriver/
