Dear Ward 6 neighbors,
I hope you all are having a good week and have been able to get outside and enjoy this spring weather.
Before I get to the Council Meeting Preview, I wanted to mention one other item.
Seven Days posted an article earlier this week about the acting chief who threatened to arrest an ER doctor this past summer. The article is in the print version that came out on two days ago. The reporter asked me in an interview if I found the complaint from the doctor to be credible. I did not offer an opinion; instead, I said that I know people can see a series of events one way and others can something completely different.
After receiving a number of emails from neighbors, I felt it important to clarify to you, my constituents, that based on the material that was provided to us, I do not have any reason to doubt the word of the ER doctor. Please keep in mind that I have not spoken with the doctor or with the acting chief about this matter as we have not had that opportunity and resolving a complaint is out of the Council's purview.
I have asked the Ward 6 NPA to devote some time on their May agenda to discussing public safety and oversight so I can get further input from many of you on these important community topics. I fully appreciate all perspectives and opinions and welcome your thoughts and value your confidence, always.
--- On to the Council Meeting Preview for this Monday, April 17 ---
You are welcome to attend in person or remotely via ZOOM at the link above.
You can also watch via Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLljLFn4BZd2PwCge7lNoKug676jIf_iUA
You can sign up for public forum via this link: https://www.burlingtonvt.gov/citycouncil/publicforum or in person by completing a sign-up form inside Contois which will begin at 6:30.
We will begin our meeting at 5:30pm, and as this is our first meeting on the new Council year, we have a fairly short agenda, including:
• TWO WORK SESSIONS – We will be discussing community infrastructure projects with ARPA funding and an update on the Moran FRAME project.
• WINOOSKI AVENUE CORRIDOR STUDY UPDATE – The Council voted in early 2022 and the DPW Commission recently voted unanimously to move forward with changes to North Winooski Avenue. The resolution we passed in 2022 called for continued work to locate and do our best to secure off-street parking to compensate for the removal of some on-street parking. This update provides some positive news on that front and other updates.
I encourage you to review these and other agenda items at: http://www.boarddocs.com/vt/burlingtonvt/Board.nsf/Public
As always, I welcome your questions, concerns, and comments, so please be in touch. Your voice matters and I am grateful for your input.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
My best,
Karen
