Who was Erik A. Davis?
Our Troop 525 story begins in 2002 with a handful of boys ready to crossover from Cub Scouts and a town without a Boy Scout program. A troop committee was formed with Erik A. Davis being an original Charter signer. He was a Life Scout, a member of the Order of the Arrow and the proud father of a boy who continues to benefited from the vision of all those community members who labor together for Monkton's next generation of scouts.

With his easygoing demeanor, great patience and living example of lifelong scouting, Erik modeled leadership and camping skills that were critical in forming the Troop into a working unit. He was known as "The Knot Man" and the boys were required to demonstrate their abilities whenever requested. He proudly wore his boyhood Order of the Arrow sash, too small, but very special because it had been signed for him by Dr. Goodman. Erik's illness provided him and the boys an opportunity to examine the contribution a life can make to a community and he continued with scouting until skin cancer claimed him in June 2003.

Memorial donations to Troop 525 provided seed money for a Boy Scout Camp scholarship fund so that all Monkton Boy Scouts may have the opportunity and experience the joy of attending an official Boy Scout camp. The Monkton fund supplements the Green Mountain Council camp assistance program and helps families pay for camp.

The Erik A. Davis Memorial Spaghetti Dinner is an annual fundraiser to replenish the camp scholarship fund. Our first dinner was held on Green-up Day 2004. The following year we added a silent auction.

The Silent Auction is a separate fundraiser from the dinner, although they share the same space. The auction helps boys save in a personal account for troop sponsored activities and outings. Every weekend trip bears an associated cost and boys who contribute to fundraising efforts may "bank" the proceeds for their own use in scouting. This offers a very personal reward for participation in group sales efforts while also contributing to the Troop 525 general fund.

The original charter members, along with Erik A. Davis, laid a foundation that we are proud to continue building upon.

We are not funded by any business, nor do we receive any grants, or major donations. All activities are paid for by families, and most of the time subsidized through fundraisers.
Directed donations to either the camp scholarship fund or the troop activities fund are enthusiastically received at any time of the year. Troop 525 is non-profit and your donations are tax deductible.
Thank you very much for helping support Monkton Boys Scouts.
