The Vermont Young Artists Touring Group, which after a break for Covid will perform again at Chandler this coming Saturday, consists of 24 teens who focus on learning and performing traditional music and dance over the course of a 9-month (early September through early May) season, including a late-April performance tour. Group members learn from and are supported by visiting and guest artists, master musicians, and dance leaders while participating in musical exchanges with master artists and other young performers. Members rehearse, fundraise, and perform regionally in anticipation of the April tour.
The Chandler performance will be the group's final Vermont appearance before leaving for Cape Breton the following Friday. It's designed to feature what has been taught, learned, presented, and exchanged in their months of work together.
Also appearing with the teens will be adult artist leaders Andrea Beaton and Dominique Dodge, youth artist leaders Owen Kennedy and Hadley Stockwell, and the 2022/2023 Youth Commission led by Fiona Stowell.
Tickets are available at www.chandler-arts.org, or at (802) 728-9878.
Come support this wonderful group of young musicians, whose music demonstrates how traditional tunes, songs, and dances can help bridge social, cultural, geographic, economic and pandemic divides.
