Easter morning, April 9, Stowe Community Church will begin celebrations with our traditional Sunrise Service at Mount Mansfield. The first Easter Sunrise Service atop Mount Mansfield was held on April 10, 1955. Reverend Douglas Brayton, who was in his first year as pastor of the Stowe Community Church, arranged that first Easter Sunrise Service with the Mountain Company. It was held atop the single chair near the Octagon. The service moved to the Cliff House in 1969 when the first Stowe Gondola was available providing a warmer ride to the top.
This year, free rides up the gondola will start at 4:30 am and stop at 5:45. The service will begin at 6 am.
We'll continue Easter celebrations with our traditional 9:30 am service at the church at 137 Main Street. That service will feature familiar Easter hymns, trumpet fanfares, a beautiful solo and choir music. That service will also be live-streamed at stowecommunitychurch.org/live.
Following the service, all are invited to a kid's favorite – an Easter egg hunt at Parsonage Park. Over 1000 eggs will be ready for children to collect, beginning at approximately 11 am.
