The Joslin Memorial Library and the United Church of Christ invite you to attend a joint event in the church's sanctuary, entitled Music as Medicine. Islene Runningdeer, a musician, therapist, educator, and writer will share how she uses music to aid and comfort patients and families during the dying process, to draw people with dementia out of their isolation and confusion, to teach students about creative freedom and health and to uplift anyone no matter the setting. Author of two books, Musical Encounters with Dying: Stories and Lessons and The Musician Healer: Transforming Art into Medicine, Islene Runningdeer draws upon her French and Mi'kmaq/Abenaki First Nation roots to make music joyful. Persons of all ages are welcome.
