Dear Neighbors,

The City Council will hold the last meeting of its Council year on Monday, March 27. Public forum will start at 7:30pm and you are welcome to attend in-person at City Hall or by Zoom at: https://zoom.us/j/93624044621.

On Monday, April 3, the Council begins a new year and will welcome its newly elected and reelected colleagues (congratulations Councilor Shannon!). The Mayor will also deliver his annual State of the City address.

Items on the Council's March 27 agenda include:

--> INCLUSIONARY ZONING UPDATES - our inclusionary zoning laws require that large residential developments include a certain percentage of affordable units. The Council will consider updates to these laws that will allow developers greater flexibility to include different sized units, including more multi-bedroom units, which should allow us to better meet the current demand for affordable housing.

--> DOG TASK FORCE - we will receive an update from Burlington's Dog Task Force, which has been reviewing City policies on off leash dogs, dog feces not being picked up, and pet licensing, and considering opportunities for more pet/dog-related activities and celebrations, among other work.

--> TRAIN QUIET ZONE - in the coming weeks, the City will be working on improvements to the rail crossings at Flynn Avenue and Home Avenue. My understanding is that during the construction period, neighbors may hear horns warning workers of oncoming trains. The Council is taking action now, though, to ensure the crossings will be designated again as a Quiet Zone, where train horns stay silent, as soon as possible after construction is complete.

--> PAVING AND SIDEWALKS - the Council will be asked to approve contracts for scheduled road paving and sidewalk repairs in 2023. As a reminder, please use SeeClickFix to report any needed repairs: https://seeclickfix.com/burlington_2.

--> CNA RECOMMENDATIONS - We will discuss and vote to accept the recommendations from the Public Safety Committee's report on the CNA Recommendations. This report is the result of a months-long process where the previous Public Safety Committee, in collaboration with a working group made up of community stakeholders, went through 150 recommendations made by CNA regarding our police department and the state of public safety in Burlington.

As always, I welcome your feedback and participation.
