Ray was committed to the education of every child since 1972, and died suddenly in 2006. His family organizes a golf tournament in his name every summer at Cedar Knoll. Proceeds are awarded in the form of scholarships to college sophomores who are the first in their families to enter college. These students are selected as they graduate from high school, and are chosen by the Ray's family for their involvement in their high school and community, their desire to work in the fields of teaching, social services, or community development.
