Town meeting was busy with meetings and votes across most Vermont municipalities for a variety of town government, charter changes, and ballot initiatives. It is always wonderful to connect with the communities that I represent and hear from them what is happening and what their concerns are. In Essex town the vote was cast to move permanently to paper ballots, in Colchester they voted to build a community rec center, in Winooski just cause eviction passed overwhelmingly and in Burlington six of their eight ballot initiatives passed. Essex Junction city will host their annual meeting on April 11.
The legislature has reached a critical legislative deadline, crossover; this is the date by which all bills that will pass this year must have moved out of their respective committees. There are some exceptions to this rule but by and large, we now know what is on the move. In my two committees - Judiciary and Government Operations we passed out a cumulative 17 bills in the first half of this session dealing with a wide breadth of issues from elections to criminal justice data collection.
A link to a report with more in-depth information about all of the work that has been done in my two committees and a brief overview of some of the senate priorities is included. Senator Gulick and I will host additional community meetings in Winooski, Burlington, and Essex Junction City in the coming months to hear from you and connect more. In the meantime please do not hesitate to reach out with any concerns that you have or issues that you want to discuss, tvyhovsky@leg.state.vt.us
If you want to hear more about the work to transform the justice system in Chittenden County please join States Attorney Sarah George and me for a film screening and panel discussion on March 29 at 6:00 pm in the UVM Grand Maple Ballroom.
