New Haven, Vermont based Hilary Andersson is a veteran BBC reporter and Peabody Award-winner renown for exceptional journalism in the wake of political unrest and war. Now, more than a year from the start of the war in Ukraine, Andersson debuts her original documentary filmed from the front lines of Mariupol. The New England premiere of the Mariupol: The People's Story will debut at Town Hall Theater on Thursday, March 23 at 7pm. Everyone is invited to a pre-film reception with Andersson at 6pm and are welcome to stay for a talk back with the journalist after the film.

Mariupol: The People's Story features the unvarnished truth of the war in Ukraine. Filmed and told by many of the citizens of Mariupol, this powerful documentary records the deaths of thousands and daring escapes by survivors. It's a story of their loss, bravery, and determination. The feature documentary was directed by BAFTA, Emmy, and Peabody award winner Robin Barnwell, and produced by multi-award winner and on-air correspondent Andersson.

Andersson is no stranger to war. She is the author of the 1991 book Mozambique: A War Against the People. She became the BBC's Lagos correspondent in 1996, and just days after arriving in Nigeria, was arrested and briefly detained by the country's military dictator General Sani Abacha. Her reports included Abacha's death, Mashood Abiola's death and the unrest in Ogoniland. Andersson went on to become the BBC's Jerusalem correspondent where she covered the outbreak of the second intifada in the West Bank and Gaza, and the war in Lebanon. She reported from the Tora Bora mountains in Afghanistan at the height of the American bombings which followed the 11 September 2001 attacks on New York and Washington.

Don't miss this gripping film – and chance to learn from a celebrated world reporter with local roots. Tickets are $14/advance and $16/door and can be purchased at townhalltheater.org or 802.382-9222. Cash bar available prior to the film.
