Ukrainian Folk Pysanky Class

Past event

I am posting this for a friend.

Just in time for Easter, or Velykden, we will be hosting a Ukrainian Pysanky Class with Melora Hunt, a Barnet-based Veterinarian and skilled Pysankarka, or Pysanky writer.

What is Pysanky you ask? Pysanky is the ancient and symbolic art of writing designs on eggs. The craft uses a specialized stylus called a kistka, melted beeswax, and various dye baths. Writing pysanky continues the pre-Christian tradition which believes that as long as pysanky are being made, good shall conquer evil! The class will also discuss traditional Ukrainian customs and the historic importance of pysanky. This is a cultural awareness fundraiser with proceeds to benefit Hero of Ukraine Charitable Foundation (formerly Heroes Ukraine).

Please join us on Monday, March 20th from 6 pm to 9 pm. Fees vary depending on your kistka (or stylus) from $45 to $110. If you have your own kistka, the class fee will be $45. If not, students have a choice of a traditional wooden kistka at $60 or an electronic kistka for $110. Students can keep their kistka for future writing. Classes will include all materials, 3 hours of instruction, and refreshments will be served.

Classes will be held at ReFind Boutique, 3176 East Main Street, Richmond, VT.
