The next meeting of the Newbury Book Discussion Group is scheduled for Thursday, April 6th. By sheer good fortune, the Tenney Memorial Library (our meeting spot) has scheduled a poetry reading for that evening. We have decided to participate in that reading in lieu of our regular discussion. Information about this event from the Tenney:
"We are happy to invite you to a poetry reading and book signing featuring local poet, Lenice Chicchini and a Poet Laureate of the State of Maine, Baron Wormser. Lenice will be reading from her second published book of poetry, The Black Guitar. Baron, who is also a Fellow of the National Endowment for the Arts and the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. He is the founding director of the Frost Place Conference on Poetry and Teaching. Barron's essays have appeared in Best American Essays 2014 and 2018. His most recent books are The History Hotel:Poems and the reissue by Brandeis University Press of The Road Washes Out in Spring: A Poet's Memoir of Living Off the Grid. Lenice and Baron will have a Q and A session after their readings and before they sign copies of their books. We look forward to seeing you on April 6th. The library is accessible for all and everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be available.

A head's up - for the May meeting of the discussion group on Thursday, May 4 from 7-8 PM at the Tenney Library, we will be reading "Bewilderment" by Richard Powers. As reviewed on Goodreads, " With its soaring descriptions of the natural world, its tantalizing vision of life beyond, and its account of a father and son's ferocious love, Bewilderment marks Richard Powers's most intimate and moving novel. At its heart lies the question: How can we tell our children the truth about this beautiful, imperiled planet?". Order a copy of the book through interlibrary loan from your local library and join us in May for an interesting discussion.
