Legacy Trees and Ecological Forestry with the Chittenden County Forester:

Ethan Tapper will present a virtual discussion. Ecological forestry is the practice of managing forests "how they manage themselves" -taking cues from forests' natural processes and disturbance regimes to dictate how to manage them for a variety of different benefits, habitats and purposes. Ecological forestry often includes retaining "legacy trees" - trees which are retained in the forest in perpetuity solely for their ecological benefits - and managing forests for the characteristics of old growth forests.
