The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Vermont yearly walkathon is our largest event, outreach campaign, and fundraiser. NAMIWalks Vermont brings together people of all ages to combat stigma, raise funds, and promote awareness of mental health conditions at an annual walk event.
The goals of this event is to bring together peers, families, community members, organizers, and supporters to:
1) Raise awareness and reduce stigma surrounding mental illness.
2) To raise funds for NAMI's top-rated free programming and services to Vermonters.
3) To build community and let people know that they are not alone.
Participants will form teams and raise money up to the day of the event. During the weeks leading up, we will provide activities to encourage and build up enthusiasm for the event, as in recipes, inspirational messages, playlists, and craft activities. On April 29th, we will gather at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington on 152 Pearl Street in Burlington Vermont. We will build excitement and walk 2.5K through the streets of Burlington with signs, drums, and costumes to promote Mental Health for All. Our walkathon averages 150-200 attendees and we are hoping to grow that in 2023 to 300 participants. Our event is open to all and what makes this unique is that we will be joining thousands of others who are participating in NAMIWalks happening around the country on April 29th.
