12:30-1: welcome and introductions
1 - 2 pm:
Guilford Treasures - Erin Tkaczyk and Richard Austin will be talking about their treasure hunting hobbies, and having a show and tell with some of the relics they've recovered from the ground. Come see the treasure and learn about one of the first recorded settlements of Guilford VT.
Proprioception Exercises to Improve Your Balance - Julie Holland will teach about the specialized cells that help us maintain our balance and prevent injury and falls when the surface beneath us changes. We will also practice a number of balance exercises to improve the strength and speed of these cells to keep our corrective responses in tip top shape.
Sourdough baking - Sarah Haydock will lead this dive into the world of sourdough. Learn how to create and use a "starter" (and take one home!), bake bread, and make skillet English muffins in creative shapes. All ages are welcome.
Itty Bitty Matchbox books - Amber Paris will show us how to create a sweet little matchbox with an accordion style book inside. Art supplies will be provided to create content for your book and decorate your matchbox. Open to kids of all ages, with or without their caregiver(s)!
2-3 pm:
Backstrap Loom Weaving - Learn to weave on a backstrap loom with Carol Schnabel. These small portable looms have been used by indigenous people in many parts of the world. Yarn provided but more is welcome.
Home Burial: back to the land - Verandah Porche, a longtime Guilford Cemetery Commissioner, will share the story of her husband's death and burial on communal land at Packer Corners. A reflection on love and an overview of how-to take on this sacred task.
Seed starting for the home gardener - Neighborhood Roots Collective will discuss indoor seed-starting strategies for home gardeners with limited space, sunlight, and other challenges. They'll also demonstrate how to make soil blocks and review the many other options for seedling containers.
Children's storytime - A community-themed storytime brought to us by the Guilford Free Library. Open to kids of all ages, with or without their caregiver(s)!
2:30-4pm:
Clay sculptures with Nature Collecting - Take a short walk with Katie and Scott in the woods near the Broad Brook Grange and collect special sticks, rocks and leaves to make clay sculptures with. We will take time in the woods for gratitude for nature, and have a quiet moment with the trees and the brook. Sculptures can be a reflection of our time with the trees, of our gratitude for what grows and flows! Open to kids of all ages, with or without their caregiver(s)!
