The Precarious Lives of Poor Children in Early 20th Century
This virtual program is brought to you by the Community Senior Center.
On Thursday March 9 at 1:30 pm Prof Meghan Cope of UVM's Department of Geography and Geosciences will present a virtual talk on Burlington's Home for Destitute Children on Shelburne Rd. Begun by area women, children from all over Vermont were brought here to board for short periods from 1899 to 1941 while their families were in crisis (e.g. a parent's death) or were brought to be surrendered for adoption. Meghan's team has logged information for over 1700 children who were residents during this time, including children from our local communities.
