Sleep-Out for Homelessness to Benefit Unhoused Veterans

According to decorated army combat veteran Morgana Isenberg, "Homeless and Veterans are two words that should never go together," and she should know. At one time, Isenberg was one of the 40,000 U.S. veterans who experience homelessness on any given night. In fact, the homeless veteran population accounts for nearly one third of all homeless adults in the U.S.

Isenberg will be joining in solidarity with unhoused veterans everywhere for the 2nd Annual "Sleep-Out for Homelessness" encampment March 17-18, on the Norwich University Crescent, off Route 12 in Northfield, VT. Hosted by The Veterans' Place, Inc., (TVPI) in collaboration with Norwich University's Center for Civic Engagement, the event runs from 4pm, Friday, through 12 noon, Saturday, and is open to persons 18 years and older. New this year is a virtual option, whereby families can camp out in their own yards. Virtual participants can showcase their support on social media with a yard sign specially made for the occasion, and available for purchase at the time of registration.

Registration is $20 per person for in-person participation (limited to 50 individuals), and $20 per family for virtual participation. Proceeds will benefit The Veterans' Place, a nonprofit transition home in Northfield that assists unhoused veterans in their quest for permanent, affordable housing. Residents also receive professional case management, counseling, and wellness services on site, along with nutritious, home-cooked meals and transportation to and from White River Junction for appointments with the VA.

Online registration is required, and closes on March 12. For more information, including how to register, visit vermontveteransplace.org/events.

Please help us spread awareness about the power of caring and kindness. The impact those two qualities carry is both tremendous and empowering. Those two qualities alone can help dissolve homelessness for our veterans and others in need.

If you are not able to support TVPI via sleep out, there are many other opportunities to do so. Please visit our website or contact me directly for information. TVPI's motto in short is, "Veterans are looking for a helping hand, not a hand out."
