Stories of a Gold Rush Era Steamship Presentation

The steamship Independence sank off Isla Margarita, Baja California, in 1853 and lost 140 passengers of the 430 on board. Miguel will describe the wreck, tell stories of survivors that were stranded on the island for three days before whaling ships came to their rescue and took them to San Francisco, and his work with marine archaeologists to identify the remains of the wreck.
