Hello friends and neighbors,
Next Fri/Sat, Feb 24 &25, I'll be playing an original soundtrack on the piano for Oscar Micheaux's 1920 silent film "Within Our Gates". The show will be at the Williamswville Hall in Williamsville village at 7:30.
Micheaux was one of this nation's first black film directors and had his own production company. "Within Our gates" is his response to the racist"Birth of a Nation" that came out a year earlier. The film confronts personal and systemic racism and is a grim reminder of problems we still face today.
The Williamsville Hall is ADA compliant. Admission is by donation and will raise money for the Hall.
