The Neurodiversity Paradigm is a framework of human development with its basis in evidence that our brains experience natural variations as they mature. At least 1 in every 5 people has a neurological profile that diverges from what society considers "normal." These individuals experience and process things in ways that other people do not. Because of this they often struggle in learning, workplace and social situations that were not designed for them, and they may not be respected for who they are.
This presentation for health-care professionals and staff, by neurodiversity advocate and director of Vermont Learning-Support Initiative Brad Smith, will examine several themes:
-Neurodiversity/Neurodivergence: Ableism/Privilege
-Neurodivergent Masking/Camouflaging: Trust/Double-Empathy Problem
-Implications for Health-Care Providers: Harm-Reduction
