How Did I Get Here: Intro to Family History

The Martha Canfield Library is pleased to announce a series of four family history seminars to be held Saturdays, February 18th and 25th and March 4th and 11th in the Sandgate meeting room from 2 to 4 p.m.

Part 1 (February 18) will explain the difference between genealogy and family history, how to collect family genealogy, and where to find the information. Part 2 (February 25) will discuss how to organize your findings and explain the sometimes-confusing charts and numbering methods used to organize information. Part 3 (March 4) will focus on how to prove your family tree, and Part 4 (March 11) will discuss the need to identify your sources, the use of DNA in family history, and tips on spending your genealogy money wisely.

Each session is divided into two parts: how-to advice followed by time for online research and collaboration. Participants are encouraged to bring their material and questions about a family they are researching. Feel free to bring your own computer to connect through the library's high-speed Wi-Fi connection.

The presenters are Bill Budde and Avis Hayden. Avis is a talented researcher and author who has been exploring her family roots since 1990 and has completed a Certificate Program in Genealogical Research from Boston University. Bill is a professional genealogist, author, and curator of the Russell Vermontiana Collection.

The seminars will be held at the Martha Canfield Library, 528 East Arlington Road, Arlington, Vermont.
