Please join "Stop Vermont Biomass" for a showing of the documentary film Burned (30minutes) followed by discussion this Sunday, February 19th at 3pm at the Burlington Friends Meeting on 173 N. Prospect Street.
Ballot Measure No 2 is the Carbon Impact Fee which asks voters to allow the City to impose a fee on new buildings and large, existing commercial and industrial buildings that install fossil fuel rather than renewable heating for the stated purpose of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Sounds good, right?
Except the question considers renewable heating to include systems fueled by wood, "renewable" gas and biodiesel. These fuels also emit carbon dioxide so do not reduce the green house gas emissions of our city. This measure would essentially incentivize heating that is not actually better for the climate even though it is not powered by fossil fuels.
The documentary film Burned, addresses the issue of whether burning wood biomass is a "carbon neutral" climate solution. Please consider joining us this Sunday.
