Background: The Atlanta Police Foundation is trying to build the largest police training facility in the U.S. by destroying Weelaunee Forest, a watershed on stolen Muscogee land surrounded by primarily Black residents who overwhelmingly oppose the project. On Jan. 18, 2023, Atlanta police murdered Manuel "Tortuguita" Téran, a 26-year-old Indigenous Venezuelan activist who defended the forest as part of the Stop Cop City movement. Vigils and events are now being held across the world in honor of Tortuguita and in solidarity with the Stop Cop City forest defenders.
