Head to the BCA Center on Friday, February 10, from 5-7 pm, to raise a glass to the artists behind our thought-provoking new exhibitions, "Co-Created: The Artist in the Age of Intelligent Machines" and "Sarah Stefana Smith: Willful Matters."
On the lower-level and first-floor galleries, "Co-Created" features eight artist-explorers who use machine learning as an artistic medium. Probing creative and technological boundaries, artists Jane Adams, Memo Akten, Minne Atairu, Lapo Frati, Jenn Karson, Mauro Martino, Casey Reas, and Jason Rohrer use video, sculpture, digital works, and interactive projects to allow visitors to explore artificial intelligence first-hand and consider its profound cultural and ethical ramifications.
Upstairs, in "Willful Matters," interdisciplinary visual artist and scholar Sarah Stefana Smith interrogates identity through materiality, aesthetics, Black art and culture, and queer theory in two provocative and contemplative bodies of mixed media work. Considering these intersecting ideas, Smith challenges viewers to consider how the lines of demarcation around difference – race, gender, or sexuality – are used to constitute and establish belonging.
Free and open to the public. All are welcome.
