Pointe Noir Cajun Band, Vermont's newest Cajun dance band, finds its rhythm deeply seated in Southwest Louisiana, where many of its members have studied and learned Cajun music. Katie Trautz is a seasoned fiddle player, who drifted south to the Bayou after many years of playing Old-Time music. Chris Hollis, the Montpelier-based old-time guitar player, also found an interest in Cajun music, and together he and Katie traveled to Louisiana to learn the musical traditions there. Helen Doyle plays bass, and grew up surrounded by many different styles of traditional music. Cannon Labrie is a long-time Cajun and Zydeco accordion player, playing with well-known New England bands Yankee Chank, Jeannie and the High Tops and Planet Zydeco. Pointe Noir plays an uplifting combination of exciting dance music, country songs, and Cajun tunes from Lafayette and beyond. Follow the band on Facebook for more events: https://www.facebook.com/PointNoirCajunBand/

Drawn together by a passion for traditional Cajun and Zydeco dance music, Yankee Chank has performed at weddings, festivals, nightclubs, community gather-ings, and parties since 1996. Its performances offer an immersion into this unique regional music using fiddle, accordion, guitar and bass. They specialize in tradition-al Cajun two-steps and waltzes as it continues to be played in the ru-ral dance halls and honky tonks of Louisiana, with some Zydeco thrown in for extra spice. Fans of Chandler's New World Festival will be familiar with this group of accomplished Vermont musicians who celebrate the con-nections between the traditional folk music of French-speaking Quebec and its Cajun cousin to the south. Bob Naess is featured on fiddle and vocals, and Cannon Labrie plays accordion and adds his voice to the vocals. Rounding out the group are Jim Burns on guitar and Mark Sustic on bass and percussion.
