March & Rally for Climate and Energy Justice

Past event
Feb 11, 2023, 1 to 3 PM

Join me, 350Vermont and allies in Montpelier this Saturday, February 11th, 1-3pm, as we march to the Statehouse to call for a just and equitable transition to affordable, clean energy for all Vermonters.

Many Vermonters spend over 50% of their household income on heating their homes. Meanwhile, utility companies turn in record profits and use their position to influence new legislation on access to affordable, clean energy. The purpose of the march & rally on Saturday is to let the Vermont Legislature know that this situation is not OK. It is not sustainable and it is not equitable.

Energy use in buildings contributes over one third of Vermont's carbon emissions. Continuing to burn fossil fuels instead of investing more in renewable, clean energy alternatives, is adding to climate chaos. Rising carbon emissions are driving an increasing frequency of extreme weather events, like the arctic freeze we just experienced, and destabilizing entire ecosystems.

Vermonters need equitable solutions that fairly distribute the benefits and costs of our transition to clean energy, protecting the most vulnerable. At the rally, 350Vermont is calling for increased investment in weatherization and energy conservation, as well as in low- and no-emissions community energy projects, like community solar and thermal networks. We also want to see ratepayer protection to keep electricity bills affordable - especially relevant in light of Hardwick Electric Department's recent tariff increase proposal.

The world we want to see is built on the voices, choices and needs of everyday people. Come and join us to add your voice to the growing movement, and speak up for the clean, just and resilient future we need. You won't get what you don't ask for.
