Affordable, Net-Zero, Modular: Chasing The Golden Trifecta & Scraping Knees Along the Way
The story of BrightBuilt Home started in 2006 with Kaplan Thompson Architects’ first net-zero project, the Brightbuilt Barn. This evolved into a successful modular, net-zero ready project with one of New England’s top modular builders, Keiser Homes, and eventually into a line of homes which went to market in 2012. The goal was to create pre-fab net-zero homes that could be presented to a wider market, both in terms of affordability and design, with the added benefit of speed when compared to stick built construction. Phil Kaplan and Parlin Meyer will discuss the changes in the typical details that these homes have required, as well as performance data collected to date. They will also share the “middle marketplace” demographic that are the sweet spot for the success of these projects, and the speed bumps that arose and the tradeoffs that were required to produce these homes with predictable results.
