Plainfield Arts (aka Friends of the Plainfield Opera House) announces the second show of the Winter Series coming up this Friday 2/10, Saturday 2/11, and Sunday 2/12 - Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 pm and Sunday afternoon at 4 pm. We are lucky to have an amazing community of artists in many fields who share their talents with us all, and this show is an example of one of the best.
Donny Osman has been renowned as an actor, organizer, producer, legislator, and director of the Governor's Institute of the Arts, as well as a long-time resident of Plainfield. He will be presenting and performing (as Dalton Trumbo) in Trumbo: Red, White and Black-listed, written by Christopher Trumbo. The play is a sympathetic portrait of a man who was one of the Hollywood Ten, who refused to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee and who was therefore blacklisted and sent to jail for 12 months. Trumbo's letters from jail reveal a spirit unbowed, a deep courageousness, and a wit both wicked and childlike. In an interview with Jim Lowe, Donny noted "There are lessons throughout this play that relate to today's world and the difficult moral and ethical choices that we make."
The play has attracted the likes of Nathan Lane, Alec Baldwin, Brian Dennehy, Ed Harris, Richard Dreyfuss and Tim Robbins to the leading role, and Donny is deeply engaged in the portrayal of a man whose letters were as well-crafted as his scripts that won him many awards (even though he received some of them posthumously or under pseudonyms). Nick Charyk will be performing as Dalton's son, Christopher Trumbo, and Monica Callan is directing.
This is a not-to-be-missed event, and there are three opportunities to see it this weekend. You can get tickets through our website - www.plainfieldoperahousevt.org or at the door, and there is a suggested donation of $20 but pay what you can. For more information, you can email plainfieldtownhall@gmail.com or call 802-498-8317.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FRIDAY AND SATURDAY PERFORMANCES BEGIN AT 7:00 PM; THE SUNDAY SHOW BEGINS AT 4:00 PM.
