Youth Development Project informational and organization meeting
Thursday, February 16, 6-7 pm, Neighbors in Action facility, 3339 Main Street, Cabot
Potluck dinner–bring a dish to share
Join Laura McCaffrey, the Vermont Afterschool Vermont Youth Project (VYP) Community Coordinator for Cabot. Some students at Cabot School and homeschooling folks already have started some work on the VYP–mapping and surveying their community–to start a process to use grant money ($40,000) designated for the youth of Cabot. Laura is excited to continue this work with the young people of Cabot by forming a youth council! She'd also love to talk to adults who want to support the work of the youth council.
Are you already doing some of this work, and you'd like to continue? Do you want to get involved? Do you want to learn more about the VYP? Come to the organizational meeting. If you can't attend the meeting, that doesn't mean you can't participate. Simply email Laura at laura@vermontafterschool.org
Is the youth council a good fit for you? It might be if–
You're a young person (22 years old or younger)
You have great ideas–You like to brainstorm and dream up ways to improve your community for young people.
You like to collaborate–You like to work with others, even if you don't know them well to begin with, to create something positive.
You listen to those you work with and others in your community–You know how to listen to others' questions and good ideas.
You enjoy committing to a big project–You like to take big ideas and make them into a reality, and you know this will take work. Depending on who's involved, we might be meeting once a week or once every two weeks for several months. These meetings will be working sessions with agendas, to-do lists, and plans to develop or progress on.
You like to solve problems–Every big project runs into problems. You like to work with others to find solutions.
You're enthusiastic about projects even if they aren't the ones you originally suggested–The young people of Cabot will vote on projects to fund, which may mean that they won't choose your favorite. You still will be happy to work on whatever is chosen.
You like to laugh–Even though some of the work might be challenging, you're ready to bring your sense of humor and have a great time!
Hope you can join us!
