Moretown Freshies Farmers' Market July 9

Past event
Jul 9, 2014, 4:30 to 6:30 PM

Hello Friends and Neighbors,

The Freshies Market forged ahead with a minor delay for those thunderstorms that came in the late afternoon last week. It was fun to get together, and we had a small group of friendly customers swing through for a visit and shop. Come to see what we've cooked up this week on Wednesday, July 9th at 4:30 at the Moretown School.

We also had a new vendor, Julianna, join us last week. Hunger Mountain Coop shoppers will recognize her from the check out line, and now folks can come by and experience her homemade creams, salves and topicals.

Jenna brought yummy cut greens and Thai basil and had nice containers of lettuce starts, tall morning glories and cut fresh flowers.

Karen had her beautiful bottles of maple syrup, homemade Mountain Woman and Mountain Man bars, herbs and eggs.

Constancia stopped by with some swing top bottles for me over the weekend and said that she and Kevin from Lalu Farm will be at the market this week with their awesome goat cheese and honey.

The fermentation adventures keep flowing at our house with the pigs and chickens moved back to their permanent pasture and are having a great time. The chickens seem right at home in their Vermont jumgle, and the pigs seemed to be playing a great game of hide-and-hide-- everyone's hiding, no one's seeking-- when we fed them this evening.

As soon as we recover from the effort of getting them situated, I'm going to garden most of our back yard that they have very nicely turned over and fertilized. Here's hoping all of their efforts will make for great cucumber, cantaloupe and squash crops this late summer and fall. And, great cucumbers make great pickles! Last year's batches got sold and eaten up much too fast, so I'm hoping for a good cucumber year and lots and lots of pickles. Stay tuned for updates from the garden, pasture and crocks,

This week. I'll have kombucha by the glass (and maybe by the bottle!), Saida's Kimchi, Celtic Kraut, Curried Kraut and one remaining jar of Sofya's Sauerkraut. I'm also gradually trying to move away from using disposable items for samples, and I've got a few more small cups to add to my collection. As we at home attempt to move more toward food independence and sustainability, I'm also trying to move my little business in that direction too.

So far, the weather for Wednesday looks good, and I hope we'll have a chance to see you at the market.

Be well,
Beki Auclair
