Central Vermont OLLI Winter-Spring Session Opens February 1.

The winter-spring session of the Central Vermont Osher Life-long Learning Institute (OLLI) kicks off on Wednesday, February 1 at 1:30 pm at the Montpelier Senior Activities Center. On successive Wednesdays until April 12, an outstanding group of eight speakers plus a three-film series hosted by Rick Winston will be featured. Films are shown at the Savoy Theater.

The Wednesday series starts on February 1 with internationally-known musicians Hilari Farrington and Benedict Koehler. They weave a unique and captivating history of Ireland's history through its music as they perform on some of its ionic instruments in their presentation, Between the Jigs and the Reels.

We will discuss important current issues including Vermont's dependence on migrant labor in its dairy industry and how systems are being created to foster a sustainable industry while advancing the human rights of farm workers. In addition, we will shed light on those ubiquitous Medicare Advantage ads that are flooding the airwaves, learn about Vermont's cultural and political center which is our historic Statehouse, discuss artists of the past and present, while checking in on the state of our native flora and fauna. The term will end with a series of films all predicated on loss of memory.

All presentations start at 1:30. See descriptions of the complete program at the Central Vermont OLLI website at https://learn.uvm.edu/program/osher-lifelong-learning/olli-statewide/central-vermont/.

You may register for all 11 weekly presentations―eight talks plus three films―for $40 ($70 for two) or for individual sessions at $8 apiece. Registration should be done online ahead of time or by mail to UVM OLLI. Or if you decide to drop in at the last moment, you may send a check or pay online after the fact.
