A FREE beginner level Falls Prevention Tai Chi Class led by Valerie Valcour RN, a certified Tai Chi Vermont Instructor, will meet on Thursdays, beginning on Feb. 2 from 5 to 6 pm in Bentley Hall, Room 207, Northern Vermont University, Johnson, Vermont. Click here for the campus map.
The class will meet on Thursdays thru March 23. A Zoom link will also be provided at a later date. Participants will be learning a series of movements and will benefit the most if they can start at the beginning. Wear loose-fitting clothes and bring comfortable indoor shoes.
Often described as "Meditation in Motion," Falls Prevention Tai Chi includes a variety of movements and forms that work on fall prevention strategies like weight transference, mindfulness and balance. It is a low impact program proven to reduce falls and arthritis pain, increase muscular strength and decrease depression, anxiety and osteoporosis. The sessions include gentle range of motion exercises that are suitable for every fitness level and ability.
These enjoyable and motivational classes may be taken either standing or sitting in a chair.
AmeriCorps Seniors and the Central Vermont Council on Aging are excited to partner with Northern Vermont University and the Johnson Public Library to offer this wellness program, which is proven to diminish or avoid negative consequences of aging.
