Hello, all -
In a truly 11th-hour move, the Governor today signed into law House Bill 42 which permits "floor-vote towns," like ours, to hold the March Annual Meeting (and all other Town meetings in 2023) by Australian ballot this year due to ongoing COVID concerns.
Anticipating this, the Select Board held a special meeting last night and approved a) holding the March 7, 2023 Town Meeting by Australian ballot should H. 42 become law b) a Warning reflecting that possibility and c) mailing Town ballots to all active, non-challenged voters.
What this means for us voters: if you are an active, non-challenged voter, you will receive a March 7, 2023 Annual Meeting ballot in the mail (with the budget and all the special articles, as well as Town officers) in addition to a WCUUSD ballot (with the school budget and school officers) within the next few weeks. You may vote on the ballots at home and mail them to the Town Clerk's Office in the included envelope OR you may drop them off at the Town Clerk's Office OR you may vote in Town Hall on March 7, 2023 from 7 AM - 7 PM. Again, please bring the ballots you were sent.
Because there will be NO IN-PERSON MEETING AT RUMNEY, an informational meeting will be held via Zoom at 6 PM on February 28th. You can also come to Town Hall and Zoom in here if that's easier. (I'll send more info as we get closer.)
Nominating petitions with 15 signatures of registered Middlesex voters are still required to run for public office. We have several elected positions up for grabs and they're listed on the Town website - middlesexvermont.org. Petitions are due in the Town Clerk's Office by 5 PM, Monday, January 30th. Postmarks are not acceptable. In addition, you must file a Consent of Candidate form - also on the Town website: https://middlesexvermont.org/2020-annual-town-meeting-forms-info/. It's a really easy form.
Finally, we still have plenty of FREE COVID-antigen tests in the Town Clerk's Office. C'mon down!
