Brattleboro VT

How do we experience the rising attacks against democracy and what can we do about them?

Please join us for the WWAC January Salon to engage in this informal, yet dynamic discussion. We suggest preparing for this discussion by looking at the work of Timothy Snyder (Professor of History at Yale) who posits "Today, our political order faces new threats, not unlike the totalitarianism of the 20th century. We are no wiser than the Europeans who saw democracy yield to fascism, Nazism, or communism. Our one advantage is that we might learn from their experience." - From On Tyranny

Perhaps you have read On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons From the Twentieth Century

If not, it is a quick and highly acclaimed read.

Other options to prepare for the Salon:

1) This video is a one hour plus lecture on YouTube from the first stop on Snyder's book tour.

2) In his Substack, find Life as a Lie: Trump, Santos and Putin
https://open.substack.com/pub/snyder/p/life-as-a-lie?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

3) He also has a great podcast Timothy Snyder Speaks. It is quite an experience listening today, to Snyder's commentary on current events as they unfolded in 2019. Find it on any podcast platform.

Preparation is not required. Join us if you are able.
