Dollar General Meeting Postponed 1 Week

Past event
Feb 1, 2023, 6 to 8 PM

Hey Poultney,

Given the forecast, we don't want to risk anyone having to drive home after the meeting Wednesday night in bad conditions.

Out of an abundance of caution, we'll be postponing the Dollar General Meeting for exactly 1 week.

Wednesday, February 1st at 6pm at the United Baptist Church on the green in East Poultney.

I'd also like to take a moment to thank everyone who has contributed to the discussion over the past week and a half on Facebook and via E-Mail. We can all be appreciative that we live in a community that cares and is willing to engage in respectful and constructive discussions about our town. I have learned a lot through talking with you all, thank you.

I do owe you all an apology as well. It has been made clear to me that the language I used in my invitation was divisive and not representative of the views of the entire community. My language did not reflect the welcoming nature of Poultney that so many take pride in and did not take into account the perspectives and opinions of others.

I apologize for that, it was never my intention and I'm sorry for the trouble it caused.

I understand there are plenty of you that are happy about this store and I respect that. Believe it or not, I am happy for you; we all deserve it. I'm not asking anyone to change their mind. I'm not asking anyone to not shop there. But I do ask that you extend that same respect toward my opinion and decisions as well as to those like-minded. And in true American fashion, our right to organize and express them as we see fit.

If anyone wants to start a pro-DG group we can have a joint cookout this summer as a measure of goodwill (we'll bring the meats).

For me, the unanswered question remains: Are there solutions on the table for us as a community to serve all our citizens their everyday needs without relying on stores that export their profits out of our town?

I'm committed to exploring this. I hope even if you don't agree that you'll understand why I feel the need to do so.

Please accept my sincerest apologies and I hope to see you next Wednesday.

Yours,

Nic Stark
