Deadline to Submit Ballot Petitions

Past event
Jan 30, 2023, 5 to 5 PM

I was mistaken about the deadline for our list of candidates going into the town report. I thought that ALL town report content must be finalized by Jan. 24th, but I found out that only this one last item should be able to be edited on Monday, Jan. 30, if needed. So if you wish to be a candidate to run for office in our local town meeting election, you still have a little time.

To get your name printed on the ballot as a candidate, you must submit a petition and consent form to your town clerk. The deadline to declare your official candidacy is Monday, Jan. 30 at 5:00 p.m. Blank petitions and consent forms may be found on our website at: https://lincolnvermont.org/forms, or you can pick them up from outside of the town office doorway. Only 11 valid signatures are needed, to complete a petition.

Here is a list of races that will be on the ballot by title of office, (term length in parentheses), and how many we will be electing.

Selectboard (3 years), vote for 1
Selectboard (2 years), vote for 1
Selectboard (1 yr. remaining*), vote for 1
Town Clerk (1 year), vote for 1
First Constable (1 year), vote for 1
Second Constable (1 year), vote for 1
Collector of Delinquent Taxes (1 year), vote for 1
Town Meeting Moderator (1 year), vote for 1
Lister (3 years), vote for 1
Lister (2 yrs. remaining*), vote for 1
Lincoln Library Trustee (3 years), vote for 2

**Note, when the term indicates "remaining", it means that someone has resigned from their elected position and this is the remainder of that term, which now needs to be filled by election.

****School officials will be elected at the annual school district meeting on March 6, 2023. Petitions are not required for school officials. Nominations will be from the floor of the meeting, and voting will also be from the floor. (I'll send more about school elections at a later time.)

If you have questions about running for office, about voting, or about these jobs, please contact me. It is exciting to see some new people interested in running. Stay tuned!
