The Cabot Public Safety Building committee would like to give an update on the activity at 2466 main street and the proposed new site for the Cabot Public Safety Building.
The Demo Contractor (Hogan Excavating) hired a certified 3rd party Asbestos testing agency to come in and retrieve multiple building material samples from the Interior/exterior of the existing structure. These samples were then sent out to a certified lab to test for the presents of asbestos. All samples were negative for Asbestos.
Large dumpsters were then brought on-site as well as heavy equipment. The main wooden structure demo started today. After the main wooden structure is demoed, the dumpsters will be removed, and the area will be cleaned up and fenced off till early spring due to upcoming forecasted cold weather next week. In the early Spring, the garage bay floor will be lifted and removed, and another certified 3rd party testing agency will be on site for the 2nd round of testing for hazardous material under the concrete slab. The concern is given due to the structure being used to service automobiles for many years. There is also an old, buried oil tank on the east side that will be opened, pumped empty, and scrubbed before removal. After the oil tank is removed testing of the earth will also be done under the tank location.
When the foundation is removed, clean backfill will be added and then seeded,
It is the hope that 2023 will be used to get the proposed site safe and fully tested and remove all existing possible hazards. During that time, The Cabot Public Safety Committee is pursuing grant opportunities and, will be working with Conner Contracting to get an accurate total cost for the proposed new Public Safety Building so we may present that to the public on the ballot in 2024 for a town vote.
The next Cabot Public Safety Building Committee meeting will be held on February 9th at 7:00 pm. It will be held at the Cabot Fire House. This meeting will be properly warned as we get closer, but we wanted to start to get the word out. We encourage you to attend to hear the Current status and review the proposed site layout.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at Chief@Cabotfiredept.com
We thank you for your continuing support of the proposed community safety entity.
