"Arming the Union" - Historical Society Trip to Precision Museum

Past event
Jul 19, 2014, 11 AM to 4 PM

Members of the Castleton Historical Society (and friends) will car-pool to the American Precision Museum in Windsor on Saturday, July 19th. We'll leave from the Higley House Museum on Main Street at 11 AM. Bring a box lunch; the museum will provide beverages and dessert.

The armory in Windsor was a major outfitter for the Union Army; it designed and produced machinery that made the majority of rifles used in the war. Explore the technological revolution that saved the Union!

As an added treat, Howard Coffin, Vermont's foremost Civil War historian, will lead us through his private collection (on loan) which includes James Hope's painting of the first battle of Bull Run at Manassas (this is the final season for Howard's exhibit.)

You can, of course, drive over on your own, but, as a courtesy to the museum, we should provide a head count by Thursday, July 17th. Please call Holly Hitchcock at 468-5105, if you plan to attend. (There is no charge for this handicapped accessible program. All are welcome!)
