Hello Roxbury Community,
Montpelier Roxbury Public Schools Board of Directors will meet on Wednesday, January 18th at Roxbury Village School. This meeting will include a discussion with regional legislators, an update from our Facilities Committee, and board approval of the 2024 fiscal year budget and warning.
The language describing our budget is required by the legislature. If approved by the board on Wednesday the school budget article will be as follows: Shall the voters of the school district adopt a budget of $28,608,500 which is the amount the school board has determined to be necessary for the ensuing fiscal year? It is estimated that this proposed budget, if approved, will result in education spending of $19,670.59 per equalized pupil. This projected spending per equalized pupil is 9.05% higher than spending for the current year.
Because of the change in property values and the way the State of Vermont establishes criteria for calculating school budgets the effect on your taxes will be a $0.13 cent decrease in the tax rate in Roxbury and a $0.02 cent increase in Montpelier. I repeat, this budget will mean a $0.13 cent decrease in the residential tax rate in Roxbury.
If you have concerns about the budget, other possible changes in services offered at RVS, or anything else related to the Montpelier Roxbury Public Schools, I encourage you to speak in person at public comment or contact your local school board directors, Kristen or Rhett.
