Pushcart Productions seeks a male actor, 50-60 years, for Act 39, a new play written by Circus Smirkus founder Rob Mermin, directed by Monica Callan, and produced at the Haybarn Theater in Plainfield, VT in June of 2023. Act 39 is a heart-felt story based on true events.

Below is a short synopsis followed by a character description:

Rob and Bill are two older bachelors and best friends who live in neighboring apartments. They play catch, tell stories, drink beer, and banter about life, love, women, magic, metaphysics, circus, and films.. When Bill is suddenly diagnosed with terminal cancer, he asks Rob to help him end his life when he is ready, by utilizing Act 39—Vermont's medical aid in dying law. What do you do when your best friend, dying of cancer, asks you to help end his life? A humorous and soulful story, this play exposes the vulnerability of the human spirit when facing mortality head on.

AUDITION INFORMATION:
Rob: Male (50-60s). athletic, playful, and expressive, with a philosophical bent and nonconventional ideas, though occasional bouts of doubt and melancholy cloud his enthusiasms. Recently diagnosed with a medical condition, he observes his almost imperceivable tremors with curiosity. A physical role, he must be a good story teller and able to execute/learn basic magic tricks.
Please feel free to bring any short, comedic piece that you prepare ahead of time. You will also be reading from the play. Sides from the play will be available ahead of time by contacting donnyosman8@gmail.com.
