Barre's Socialist Labor Party Hall will help celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.
Day with three on-line, on-demand screenings January 16th-20th as part of the Global Labor FilmFest Network's 2023 Online Screening Series. The Labor Hall is a series co-sponsor.
"At the River I Stand" chronicles two eventful months in 1968, when what began as a local labor dispute between African American sanitation workers and the white power structure of Memphis grew into the devastating tragedy of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Love & Solidarity" explores nonviolence and organizing through the life and teachings of Rev. James Lawson, who provided Dr. King with crucial strategic guidance.
"Who Cares about DC?" tells the story of the nation's capitol city's status as America's "last plantation" through the voices of activists who have been working for decades to make DC the 51st State and realize the dream of full American citizenship for its more than 700,000 residents.
