Stomp your feet, clap your hands, everybody ready for a Contra Dance? (apologies to one of my favorite children's authors, Sandra Boynton). Mark your calendar for a great night!
The Reading Recreation Commission will host a family-friendly, intergenerational "Reading Community Contra Dance" on Saturday, February 4 from 7-9 pm at the Reading Town Hall. There will be a potluck meal beginning at 6 pm, followed by a contra dance from 7-9 pm. Please bring a generous dish to share, if you plan to attend the potluck. Beverages will be provided.
What's a contra dance, you ask? It is a traditional American dance in which two long facing lines of people follow the instructions of a caller. Contra dance is "by far the most accessible of all dances for beginners". No experience is necessary to join in the fun. Renowned caller, David Millstone, will teach all of the dances and seasoned musicians Emerson Gale and Sue Hunt will provide accompaniment on fiddle and keyboard. Soft-soled shoes are good for dancing. Masks optional.
Admission prices are $10/adult and $20/family, anyone under 18 is free.
